Meloncholy Homecoming

We're back! Glad to be home and sad to be home all rolled into one. We stayed at the Goshorn Lake Resort, and I was prepared for some rustic livin'. Much to my surprise, the place is beeyouteeful. A real diamond in the rough. Add a basement, and our "cabin" was as big as our house-- with all of the amenities of home, too. Think mini White Birch Lodge, before the condos. It was right on Goshorn Lake (duh) which is a tiny little clean lake that butts up to the Singapore sand dunes. We could see the buggys at the top of the dunes when they were giving tours. The boys were so excited when we arrived- they ran from swingset to b-ball court to the swimming pool- and finally settled on a rowboat tour of the lake. Dad was the guide, and we rowed over to the dunes to trek to the top and enjoy the view.

The rest of the trip was so full- but some highlights are:

  • Pizza from the Back Alley Pizza Joint

  • Dinner at Phil's Bar & Grille
  • the beach

  • The Taste of Saugatuck festival

  • playing Battleship with Mason (he won twice, surprise)

  • the beach

  • live music under the old weeping willow

  • feeding the ducks

  • sculpture climbing

  • the beach

  • climbing the 282 steps to the top of the "golf ball"

  • Watching TMNT with Mason

  • and...the beach!

The beach is always the best part, as you can tell. The boys invented a game called wave tag that kept them busy and wore them out. Those 282 steps were no joke either, and looking back on the weekend I think Sean was trying to sneak in workouts wherever he could. This was him: "My forearms were really working digging that sand....My quads are burning from carrying Ash up those steps...that wave tag is great cardio" meanwhile, I laid on the blanket and ate picnic food and watched the boys play. Who knows how to relax in this family?

The only sad part was that we missed the blueberry picking season. We were on our way to go pick some berries like little Sal, but the season ended early. Bummer, but it's first on the agenda next year.
