Reading Rainbow

Does anyone remember this show? I think it's still on, actually.
I've picked up the reading pace a little after an article in Sunday's blade about how summer reading gets swept under the rug in most homes. O.K., they were talking about Grade school kids, but it's never too early to start, right? We finished The Chocolate Touch, and Mason chose Stuck with Luck to start at bedtime last night. I picked a stack of about five chapter books from Suepy, and we will work through those- I hope Superfudge is the one Mase chooses next, I just think he will really identify with it.
I get so excited when I start remembering all of the books that I loved as a little girl, I can't wait to introduce Mason to Ramona Quimby and her friend Henry, or to read him The Pain and the Great One (a classic, in my opinion. I was the Great One, and Jerome was The Pain, naturally). I am always disappointed with the cover art on the newer additions though. I know they are designed to appeal to a new generation of children, but I expect Ramona to look the same as she did when I first met her.
I just started reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, (thanks, PJ) and I think it will be just as good as The Kite Runner. That is the positive side to being a golf widow on Wednesdays, I can read without guilt!

my mom used to read Ramona books to me and I would beg every night, "One more chapter! just one more chapter!"
