We've had a fun-filled weekend. Sea Creatures got cancelled, so Mason got to see part of the Transformers movie with Mimi and Uncle Jerome. While they were doing that Sean and I took Ash shopping. We went to Sams, Whole Foods and Borders. Most of our time was spent at the bookstore, Ashton brought us book after book to read to him, and we settled on two: The Monster at the End of this Book (A tribute to you, Uncle Derk) and What's Wrong, Little Pookie? by Sandra Boynton. We picked out some workbooks for Mason, they are his favorite thing lately. He got one filled with Mazes and one that has basic letter and number tracing, dot-to-dots and following directions exercises. When Mase starts working on a page from one of his workbooks, he becomes completely focused. Mazes and dot-to-dots are his favorite, and he can sit and do one after another after another without becoming bored. I am baffled (but tickled) when he works like this, because this is the same boy that I have to follow around the house from the beginning to the end of a task to make sure it gets done.
Saturday we stayed home and had breakfast together and then got to work on fall-cleaning. Sean and I did all of the chores that get left undone so long, like cleaning out the fridge and wiping the insides of the cabinets out. The boys played in their jammies, colored, and watched cartoons until lunchtime. We headed out to the Appleumpkin after naps, and Kapnik's was packed. I had no idea that there was so much to do there. We did the pumpkin bouncy, the kid-a-pillar, the wagon ride (we picked a peck of apples, tee hee) through the spooky forest and drank hot cider. Today we hit the downtown part of the festival, and the boys bounced their little hearts out. We got there early with Grandma and Papa and it was perfect because there was no crowd. When the rides opened the boys got to go again and again without getting off because they were the only kids there.
This afternoon Mason and I headed out to a wet and chilly football game. The Packers played the Cowboys, and were doing pretty darn well for themselves until they lost focus in the second half. The game was tied at 3 all at the end of it, and everyone was in a hurry to get home. The only really eventful thing that happened is that a teammate of Mason's taught the whole team how to "give the finger". Maybe Mimi is right about football.
