No school today

The boys were excited to have a lazy morning at home today, no school! They get excited every Saturday to spend the morning with Mom and Dad, and don't realize yet that every Saturday is "no school". Ashton and I made chocolate pancakes for breakfast, and then headed off to music class. Mason and Sean went to Sean's office and did some work, and Mason got scanned for the first time. I have to admit I felt a swell of pride when I saw how clean and symmetrical his scan was, the same way you would if your child made you a masterpiece in art class or scored a goal in soccer. Sean is going to speak at Mason's classroom this week for their "human body" unit, and will bring in Mason's scan to show the class. Mason is so excited to have his dad come to his classroom, and puffs his chest out just like grandpa every time he talks about it.
Last night the boys and I had a really nice evening, we stayed in and worked on a new dinosaur puzzle together- all four of us. Every member of the family helped, and when it was finished we turned off the lights to see the dino's skeleton glow in the dark. The boys felt such a sense of accomplishment- this was not an easy puzzle, with 100 small pieces. I thought of Grandma Brotje through the whole thing, she often had a puzzle in some stage of completion on her dining room table and always encouraged us to work on it with her.
We are in full Kalahari-countdown mode, only six more days until we scoop up uncle Jerome and head off on our water adventure. The boys are as excited as they were to go to Disney, unbelievably. I am already mentally packing our cooler and suitcases!
