Holding on until the weekend

We spent all day Saturday at the lake, and the boys were happy (and exhausted). So were we. Mason showed me the ropes of tubing, and I got to ride with him while Uncle Tony rode with Brianna, then I got to ride with Sean. I have tube burns on both elbows, and I'm still surprised I survived all the wipe-outs with my suit bottoms in tact. I haven't had that much pure fun in a long time, it was great.
Mase was "surfing" on a piece of white Styrofoam, and squirting everyone he could with his arsenal of water guns. He got to show off his water-savvy to all of the cousins and friends, and when we packed him up he was a little prune. He had such a good time I think he got over his disappointment at not being invited to spent the night at the lake with the rest of the family for the fourth. Their tents did look pretty cool, I can understand the attraction. I think sometime soon we will have to set up camp in the backyard (with an air mattress, naturally).
Today we recooperated and then took the boys out to see Ratattouille. It was pretty good, all four of us got a kick out of different parts. And, it was the perfect way to avoid today's awful heat. I rode my bike to the grocery store to pick up some ingredients to make Sara Snow's Basil Pesto from my CSA basil. It was actually faster to go to the store from our sub on bike than in a car, at least at that time of day. Without having to stop for traffic I was there and back before I knew it, and it also helped that I could literally only buy what I came for because I only had a small canvas bag with me.
This week we have a playdate tomorrow afternoon after summer camp, and we are hosting our first Mom's group playdate Tuesday. Then it's only a couple of days until the girls board the megabus to Chicago, and the boys start "Boy's Weekend" with dad. I can make it until then!
