a tiny heartbeat

Amanda (the midwife) came for an appointment today, and Sean and I kept the boys home in hopes that they could hear the baby's heartbeat and (ideally) become more interested in the whole experience. Amanda used a hand-held doppler and also a fetal scope to listen to the heartbeat. The baby was doing backflips during the doppler, and we only heard the heartbeat for a short time with that, but Sean and Ashton both got to put the fetal scope (see picture) on their foreheads and listen. They were able to hear a lot better with the low-tech device than with the doppler, because it doesn't have all of the background noise the doppler does. Ashton loved the whole appointment, he was interested in everything and even had Amanda listen to his baby with both devices. Mason was more interested in cartoons most of the time, but he did have some fun with the blood pressure cuff. We have some water-birth videos to watch later, I am excited to show Mason, because he is afraid of "them cutting you" after Amber's experience.
We are suffering from a severe case of cabin fever- the boys are crawling the walls and picking at each other constantly. Today we visited the bouncy again, but it is quickly losing its appeal. I am anxious for our other field trips, the boys need some physical stimulation and a change of scenery.
