Thriller? Who knew?

Last night was the mom and son dance at the community center in Tecumseh. Mason and I got out our fancy duds and started the night with a dinner at Evans Street, our favorite place. Mason ordered a Roy Rogers- I think it was the first pop he has ever drank (to my knowledge) and he was ready to boogie afterwards. We enjoyed appetizers before dinner, and very interesting conversation.

When we got to the dance Mase picked out a corsage for me, and was delighted to recieve a goodie bag filled with a flashing mouth piece and a punch balloon, among other treasures. There were multi colored lights spinning on the dance floor, and the boys were attracted to them like moths. I was surprised when Mason warmed up and then spent the entire night dancing. We discovered that he loves Michael Jackson, he listened with wide eyes when the DJ played a Jackson montage beginning with "Thriller" or as Mase calls it- the spooky song. He had the zombie dance down. We took a break to join the five-year-old basketball shootout- and Mason was the first five year old to make a basket! He was so proud, and I actually got it on camera. Only three boys ended up making a basket at all, and our old friend Cameron was the winner when he sunk a second. We got our pictures taken and then kept right on dancing. As I watched the boys out there dancing with their moms, I couldn't help thinking that these will be the boys that actually dance when high school dances come around. Teenage girls, we're doing you a favor! At the end of the night they had a prize giveaway, and Mason won a flashing-light cup. He was completely content when we headed home, but very, very tired.
I was so happy to have this night with my Mase, we were able to lift our spirits for an evening and truly enjoy each others' company. It was such a fun event, I feel really grateful we were able to go. Next year is already on my calendar!
