Mini field trips

Tuesday I took the boys on a "field trip" after school- we went to the Lenawee Humane Society. I wanted to show the boys where Abby was adopted from, and let them see all of the animals that were waiting for good people to come and adopt them. It was a really wonderful trip, the boys LOVED seeing the cats, kittens and puppies. I am not a cat person, but they gravitated toward the kittens. Mason sat and let a group of three siblings chew on and bat at his fingers. He was a little melancholy after the trip, we talked a lot about why the animals were there and what would happen to them if nobody adopted them. He had me read the intake reasons on each cage, and the ones that said "abandoned by owner" were the most upsetting for all of us. We chose some treats for our girl and left a donation before calling it a day.
Yesterday Sean had big plans for a picnic lunch at Hidden Lake Gardens, but the rain turned his field trip into an afternoon at the bouncys. When I returned from yoga Ash had just woke up from a nap and was crying to go "back to bouncy", so they must have had a good time. Soccer practice and golf were both cancelled, and Mason and Sean were both bummed. Fortunately swimming was still on, and the big boys went there while Ash and I read a million books before settling down to sleep early.
Tonight is the last swim class, and Mason claims that is fine with him because he already knows how to swim anyway, he doesn't need any more classes. I'm excited to get in the water with him at Sauder Village on Saturday so he can show off some of his new skills up close.
