Unless you're having a bad life

Ash is back to school today, the goopies and crusties have left his eyes. What worked the best in the end was chamomile tea bag compresses and swiping the tea over each eye with cotton balls. It worked fairly quickly, but was a challenge to get him to lie still for 15 minutes a stretch. I'm just happy it's over with and no one else in the family was infected.
The boys had a great time at the pirate party Sunday, and wore the red cupcake frosting home as proof. Mason didn't buy the pirate-on-a-motorcycle for a minute, but Ash was scared of him, so he was believable enough for the three year-olds.
Monday brought back swimming class, which Mason has been enjoying so much. He was thrilled yesterday because his group was taken over by two boy instructors. They were very high energy and a perfect match for the kids. The boys added a lot of new, exciting activities. They swam across the whole pool and jumped in to just a lifeguard float, and Mason gained a lot of confidence in the water.
Ashton is looking forward to soccer that's "all mine" tonight, he doesn't like to just sit and watch when Mason plays. I hope that he wants to do more on his own this time, because I don't know how many more games of silly squirrel I can manage this pregnant.
This morning Ashton was whining that we have "no garage". I'm not sure what he meant, that he couldn't find the garage, or couldn't open the door to the garage, but Mason reassured him by calmly explaining that "Ash, everyone has a garage, unless you're having a bad life". It's funny to hear how he understands things. He went on to talk about how awful it would be if Sean and I died (I think this comes from watching Annie) and he and Ash had to live alone. He was immensely cheered up when I told him that in that event he would probably go and live with a relative. He spent the rest of breakfast deciding where he would want to go, and rating them on a scale from most to least fun. By the time we left for school Suepy, Lilly and Sadie were winning, and mentally he's got his bags backed. At least he won't be sad!

I can imagine we didn't rank very high on Mason's list of preferred guardians...given our lack of a garage!

The yucky sicky-ness is going around. Glad to hear Ash is all better. Bren is real crabby today, I keep watching his eyes. No signs yet of pink eye.
