Today was one of those days when I wonder if I've moved forward at all, or even maybe lost a little ground. I ordered TAP certificates to pay for our upcoming adventure to Disney world (all the anti-consumerists are cringing, I know). The certificates have a low rate of return, 2%. I knew I wasn't going to get a big break on tuition from them, but every little bit helps, and even small percentages equal some savings on large purchases, right? Apparently, wrong. I forgot to take into consideration the 2% administration fee the school takes for credit card orders. All I accomplished with the whole mess was a lot of frustration and wasted time, and my savings equal neatly out to zero.
After the bedtime rigmarole I collapsed on the couch, and decided that the Disney certificate fiasco is a small example of how I am feeling about everything lately. Rush around in the morning, cooking, cleaning up, to do lists, errands... only to have to again cook, clean it up, rush around and at the end of the day have nothing to show for it. Several smaller cycles of this in the larger daily cycle, and I better understand the "thankless work" described in so many mom-manifesto type books. I know I work, but it's hard to say what I really do, as it is all undone by the end of the day. Nothing is more scream inducing than to have the "working" half of the equation raise an eyebrow and scan the house when you complain that you are tired as if to say "why? this place is a disaster". Of course, I'm adding my dialogue to his expressions. That's what I imagine he would say. After this pity party, who would like to order some TAP certs this Sunday??????
The boys had a much more productive day, thank God. School was good for both, and they gobbled leftover enchiladas made-by-Mimi for lunch. Mason prepared a snack later in the day (cottage cheese with green pepper and cucumber dippers) and I decided he is in charge of snack from now on. He usually hates green peppers, but as he explained "It tasted good because I made it". Ashton built and rebuilt his famous couch pillow creations, "tunnel", "slide" and of course, "mountain".
Tomorrow we will begin again, Finnegan.
